Long Distance Routes Forum
(LDRs) in Argyll and Bute are among of our key resources. Looking after them and developing the network has been proven to deliver a wide range of benefits – health, social, economic and environmental. There are over 200 miles of Scotland’s Great Trails are in Argyll & Bute, including 80 miles of the National Cycle Network and 93 mile Argyll Sea Kayak Trail.

Supporting the LDRs was identified as a high priority for ACT in the 2012 Feasibility Study - no other organisation can be as strategic and independent. We have launched a working group with representatives of all LDRs (existing and proposed) and others including Argyll and Bute Council Access, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and Argyll and the Isles Tourism Co-operative in order that they can work co-operatively, pool resources, and attract funding to support maintenance, upgrades and route network development, encourage enterprise around the routes and look towards collective marketing and income generation.
