Act Hubs
Empowering communities to enhance tourism and support their local economy.
![]()
Act Hubs is an innovative new project that aims to empower communities across Argyll and the Isles to enhance visitor experiences whilst also benefiting their community and local economy.
The project will work with communities that seek to find innovative ways of realising the potential of existing built and natural resources within their environment. By doing so, we aim to demonstrate new and sustainable approaches to further improve tourism in Argyll and the Isles.
Act Hubs will provide support by transforming community ideas into project proposals ready for implementation. This will involve developing the project from an idea to a fully costed implementation plan, with any specialist or technical contributions required, suggested funding options and timescales for delivery. Act Hubs is not able to provide direct funding to deliver projects but the community can, if they wish, use the plan to deliver the project, including applying to relevant funding bodies. We can work with fully formed community groups, or can help to form groups who want to drive an idea forward.
Act Hubs is looking for projects that demonstrate a range of enterprising techniques to enhance experiences for residents and visitors to Argyll and the Isles and support the local economy.
The project objectives are:
- Support tourism and the Argyll and Isles Tourism Co-operative
- Generate income
- Develop asset management opportunities
- Support existing community commitment
- Demonstrate new approaches
- Include the development of an active outdoors recreation initiative
- Be sustainable
- Aim to support project suggestions representing all areas of Argyll and the Isles.
Act Hubs aims to support at least one project from each of the following eight areas:
- Mull, Iona, Tiree and Coll
- Islay, Jura and Colonsay
- Oban and Lorn
- Kintyre and Gigha
- Inveraray, Knapdale, Kilmartin and Crinan
- Bute
- Dunoon and Cowal
- Helensburgh and Lomond
The final projects will be selected based upon how well they meet project objectives and Act objectives (https://www.act-now.org.uk/en/about-us) as well as their strength of community support, likelihood of securing implementation funding and practicality of delivery.
Act Hubs is part-financed by Act and part-financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community Argyll and the Islands LEADER 2014-2020 programme. The project will be delivered by the project team, supported and advised by a steering group. The project team are:
