“Your ACT” was an awareness raising initiative designed to help establish ACT and our aims to get people outdoors and enjoying their environment, and to target groups and young people.
The results were fantastic and came from a huge range of locations and ages. What creative souls we have in Argyll! It was so difficult to choose a winner but eventually we settled upon Glenbarr Primary School (their mural pictured) closely followed by Lochdonhead Primary and Islay High John Muir Award group.
We hadn’t anticipated that the project would capture so many peoples imagination and that at such a busy time of year groups would make time to get out there and create our mural , but that is exactly what they did! If there was a prize for the most amusing entry it would be Islay High who charmed us with their quotes ““Told you we were good at this”, Miss!”
Islay High John Muir group will be using their £100 prize money for a day trip to Colonsay and the RSPB reserve on Oronsay which sounds like a fantastic day out. ACT Trustee Ross Lilley of SNH will visit the group in January 2015 to present them with their certificate and go out site with the group.
Grace McLeod (ACT Trustee) and Julie Young (Development Officer) of ACT visited Glenbarr PS to present them with their first prize. We gatecrashed their Christmas lunch and they still welcomed us! We also met some parents there who had worked on the project with pupils who felt that the project was a good opportunity for all pupils to get involved.
ACT Chairman Ian Hepburn will visit Lochdonhead PS to present them with their award. They were thrilled to receive their award – in their words….
'To be shortlisted was a shock and I am pleased'
- 'I enjoyed making the act symbol. We made it with sticks and leaves.'
- 'When we found out we were short listed, I was amazed! We put in a lot of effort'
- 'We did a lot of outdoor learning during this'
- 'I learned how to make art in the woods and it was very fun for me'
We loved “Your Act” . It was a great way to involve some new people we had not yet engaged with and see how they interpreted the challenge to get outdoors and get arty. Can’t wait to do it again!
Your ACT - it worked for us!
