Throughout 2014 we have been working towards enhancing the geocache network. We now have 14 caches live and registered on www.geocaching.com. Geocaching is a great family friendly way of encouraging people to explore just a little way off the beaten track and to draw them to lovely sites that they might not otherwise visit. It’s a huge worldwide phenomenon and to a caching newbie like ACT (previously Muggle) the jargon, popularity and network has been a revelation!
We made up the geocaches at the Viking Raid and Heart of Argyll Water Festival with the help of some keen volunteers who then chose locations for their caches in the Mid Argyll area. We made some lovely treasures with our Artmap colleagues so that cache finders have a treat in store! So thank you to Emma, Hannah, Mary and Ellen, Bill, Alice, Paul, Kyle, Anita, Sophie, Katy, Melanie, Eve, Natan and Amber who all have ACT now caches. Some of whom have since gone out and found their own caches in situ which was a great discovery.
Due to some expert siting (thank you Wild Argyll) and cunning clues the ACT now caches have been really well received – just look at some of the feedback! - comments from www.geocaching.com

“FIRST TO FIND HOORAY. That's the great thing about caching didn't know about this drovers road and it's history so it was good to find that out. The sheep path was a river after the rain so managed to scramble to the top. As Paul said the views are really amazing and yes there looks to be a great many hill forts all around ( but didn't count them) Lots of heather around here took me a wee while to find the right bit but eventually did. Thanks for placing a cache here.”
Wondering what all the codes mean? - its geocache-speak and a whole new world!
We’d like to extend our geocache network across a wider area – if you like to get involved or have a good idea for a site and not sure how to get started, give us a call, you might be FTF!
