Our heritage plays a massive role in what Argyll and the Isles are known as today.
Enjoying our history…
Our area wouldn’t be the same without the ancient forts and duns, early Christian chapels, mediaeval castles and recent industrial archaeology. The remnants of the people who have lived here before us gives us distinctive character and makes our home a treasured place to visit. We have sites that have local and national importance such as Inveraray Castle and others that are potential world heritage site status such as Kilmartin Glen. These wonderful landmarks make an important contribution to the tourism economy of the area, contribute to our sense of place and communities, and can also have nature conservation benefits.
How we act*…
We hope to secure resources, including external funding and volunteer energy to deliver projects which will protect and enhance Argyll’s heritage.
*act is still in its infancy and some actions detailed here are still in planning phases and not yet active. However it is our sole intention to get these projects up and running as soon as possible – and when we do, you’ll be the first to know.
